Stefano Bianca

Dr. Stefano Bianca, architectural historian and urban planner, has had a lifelong professional involvement with historic cities in the Islamic world. Since 1975, he has directed many important urban conservation and rehabilitation projects in places such as Fes. Aleppo, Baghdad, Medina, Cairo, Zanzibar, Hunza, Samarkand and Kabul, some of them as the founding director of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme (1992-2006). He is also the author of many books and articles dealing with Islamic architecture, cities and gardens, as well as integrated conservation and urban planning approaches.
