Demet Binan

Demet Binan is head of Restoration Department at Faculty of Architecture in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and also director of Mimar Sinan Research and Practice Center. She has become doctor with her Ph.D.  thesis entitled “A Methodological Research for the Conservation of Stone Masonry Dwelling Architecture in the Example of Güzelyurt in Cappadocia Region” in 1994, assistant professor in 1998, associate professor in 2000 and professor in 2007. Her fields of speciality are Conservation of Historical Environments and Architectural Conservation and Restoration. She has projects, books and various publications on documentation and conservation of Urban Cultural Heritage as well as research projects and publications on Monuments Manufacturings and Mason Marks in Middle Ages Anatolian Turkish Architecture. She teaches the undergraduate courses “Conservation and Restoration”, “Architectural Survey”, “Conservation and Tourism”, “Traditional and Vernacular Architecture and Conservation” and graduate courses “Urban Conservation Sites and Their Evaluation”, “Vernacular Architecture and Conservation”, Conservation and Renewal Project”, “Historical Environments Conservation  Project” besides she is the supervisor of Master and Ph.D. thesis.

She is also member of UNESCO İstanbul World Heritage Sites Monitoring and Guidance Committee (2006 – present) , A head of Advisory Board of İstanbul World Heritage Sites Management Directorate (2008 - present) ; member of TMMOB –  Union Of Chambers Of Turkish Engineers And Architects (1982 - present) and ICOMOS- Council of International Monuments and Sites (1994 – present).
